Are IKEA mattresses good?

Current one is a Sealy and has the mattress served me well but due to an accidental drowning needs replacing. The divan base broken years ago (draws gone and the attachy bits fallen off), so in a nutshell my bed and mattress needs replacing

I was just looking at bedframes and there's one on the IKEA site that's nice, but I know nothing about the mattresses. I did a bit of a search on here for opinions but it didn't throw much up (I never have much joy with the search on here!).

Could anyone share their views please - on any type (I prefer firmer mattresses - up have a ortho one now)

We had an ikea frame and mattress for 8 years and it was fine. We had a mattress topper which id say you'd probably need. We have now upgraded to a luxury geltec mattress and the ikea one doesnt compare at all, but then the ikea one was probably five times less expensive! For the money you pay you get a very good bog standard mattress so if thats what you are after then its definately a good choice.

I've had one for 10 years and it's fine. I've also got a memory foam mattress topper on it. Go and try them in store.

It's my understanding that IKEA mattress aren't standard size like you get in all other shops in the UK. I'd check and bear that in mind

I intend to try for certain, I've a few weeks to look around (while the water damaged ceilings are repaired!)

I've three beds to replace so cost is an issue (originally got the Sealy in a great sale can't see that happening in my time scale) plus the huge advantage to ikea is you don't need to wait weeks.

Makes sense though as it seems beds by the same name are different sizes in each country

Check their website - their beds used to be different to UK sizes, but they now offer standard doubles, as well as their own doubles.

I'm mattress hunting at the minute too. IKEA do uk sized now. And one of the mattress got a good score in the which report. this is the one

But I'm also looking at John Lewis, and the price is much higher, but you get way more springs. So I think you get what you pay for. If you're looking for 3 mattresses, you could get three of those IKEA ones for the price of one John Lewis luxury one. They do have a 25 year guarantee too (the IKEA ones).

You need to lie on them. Let us know what you go for!

I seem to lose all ability to do maths when it comes to measurements. King sized mattress on ikea site is 150cm; that's standard uk King isn't it? Though I think it's about an inch short of 5ft!

We have an ikea mattress and frame with memory foam topper. We've had it going on 6 years now and it's the most comfy bed we've ever had.

I'm in Ireland so no John Lewis (same bed sizes though)

There's a decent online site for mattresses - though you can't try before you buy (well you can if you find one in a shop). One of them is a large single so I've no choice where to buy that meaning that'll cost me more.

I'll prepare myself for an ikea visit soon!!

IKEA do both European and UK bed/mattresses now. On their website the standard UK ones are listed as "Standard Single", "Standard King" etc. The European sizes are listed by cm eg "90x200cm". Same goes for their bedding.

We have their Hessing mattress and it's very comfortable, better than our previous mattress which I think was a silentnight. And about the same price. You do get what you pay for though, our spare bed (which gets slept in by small children about once a year so we wanted bargain basement) is one of their cheap mattresses and it's not great.

They always come out as the 'winner' in the tests of our consumer rights advocacy organisation here in The Netherlands. I think they win mostly on value for money but I know they also have ridiculously long warranties for a mattress and last well provided you flip it over often enough.

If you find a mattress you like there make sure to try it out on the base of your choice too, the box spring bottoms make them all very squishy and soft which might very well be what you're looking for or not so make sure you get the right combo. I used to have an Ikea mattress, one of the more expensive ones with horse hair, they're fine but not if you have any serious back issues or anything like that and I'd avoid getting the one large mattress and opt for two singles instead (if that works out in your local sizes) with the little filler thing in the middle, you can also then opt for one soft and one firm if you have a bed partner with different comfort tastes or needs it to support a heavier frame.

I love our IKEA mattress and don't have a topper-they make me too hot and are too soft. We have quite a hard mattress but IKEA at the time allowed you to change if you didn't like it do we swapped a softer one for this one. We have a malm bed base.

I went to IKEA recently and they had an area where you could try out all the mattresses and they seemed pretty comfy.

I've never had one personally but we bought one with my sons bed which was from IKEA. We bought a new mattress after less than a week. The ikea one was so thin and uncomfortable. It wasn't much thicker than a foam mattress you would take camping! I would never ever buy one from there. Save your money and get one from somewhere else.

We've got a Sealy on our bed (about 6 years old now), but bought an IKEA one for our daughter's bed about 12 months ago. I can't remember the name of it, there's about 6-8 different ones and it's probably the 4th cheapest one. It's SOO comfy. If she's ever on a sleepover, DH & I fight to sleep in it!

We have gone from a Tempur to an IKEA through choice and much prefer it.
We went for the natural packed one as DH is a sweaty bigger and it's improved DH bad back
We researched to death and IKEA was recommended on here many times
We've had a single latex one for years and I love that when it gets too hot
The lady said if you're not happy they can be returned and they then get donated to charity causes
They often sell some off in the bargain basement

We had a really fancy mattress that we always thought was ok.... Just hanged to an IKEA one, and this is our first night sleeping it. Oh my god it's SO GOOD! It's the hyllestad one. (Note: not awake due to mattress - am pregnant and need the loo every 20 secs!)

Sorry to resuscitate this thread, but did you get a Hyllestad Firm or Medium Firm?

I have just ordered the Firm and I am now worried it may too firm.

I really did a lot of research before buying a mattress. Once we think to spend money on a mattress I think we need something really good maybe it's more expensive. As I found Ikea is not that expensive yet its the most comfortable thing. I really cannot oversell this mattress as it is so good. If you buy it you will not regret it.
