Washing machine recommendations

We are about to move house and quite excitingly we need to buy a new washing machine for the first time ever we've always had second hand ones previously.

However, I have no idea where to start or how much to spend! I don't think we need a large drum, there's only two of us, but I would like a wool and/or handwash cycle.

Price wise I don't want to go mad, but I also don't want to buy cheap just to end up replacing it sooner.

Any recommendations or advice? Thanks in advance!

Hi yesterday we bought from Argos the Hoover Wizard. It's 399 after 20 per cent off. 1400 spin 9kg wash load. Won't be delivered until 21 September but we can wait until then as our current models still working just noisily as the bearing went.

Anyway it's got WiFi and you can control it either in the usual way or access more settings and custom washes and lots more via the app.

I narrowed the choices down to three machines and showed dh and he investigated them all and found fault with them so he looked on the website and found this one. I was a bit at first but dh is an engineer and total technology geek and assures me it's the way forward.

Just seen its on pay for in 9 months with the Argos card. No interest if you pay by the date they issue.

It's replacing the hotpoint aqualtis which is 7 years old and had problems from about the first year. Luckily we had a warranty for parts and labour with it and then dh fixed it lots of times ordering parts online etc.

Even if you don't buy from Argos they have a compare option to compare up to 4 models if you narrow down your search and they stock them.

Oh and it's got a 14 minutes quick wash facility (2kg max load) so great for the times I need to get small odd items washed and done in a hurry. Plus the usual options too.

if you have the space (and cash) get a separate washer and dryer. Each machine will be far better at doing the one thing it's designed for, they will last longer and you can mix clothes in washes that can't/don't need tumble drying.

We have a zanussi. It's OK but not great. Good spin and temp choices, lots of different programmes, is quiet (for a w/m) BUT it uses very little water and sometimes really dirty clothes need a second wash. On shorter cycles, such as delicates, the clothes feel like they haven't rinsed fully. Used to have a Miele w/m....loved it. You could increase the water usage if needed and clothes never needed 2 washes.

I just bought a beko. Cheap but still 9kg a quick wash, countdown, time delay etc
My Bosch despite being 3 times the cost only lasted three years! The bearings went - using it daily was over use apparently.
