I'm really stuck trying to sort out some curtains for our bedroom. Have just decorated, it's a flat neutral colour called Egyptian cotton and it looks fab - very soothing and cool. We have two windows, a double sash window and a single sash.

Can't decide if I should add colour to the room with the curtains or keep it neutral.

What do you think?

Personally, we have a beige and white room with beige check curtains that are a little darker (tending towards orangey/brown). It looks really peaceful and calm to me which I think is nice for a bedroom. But it's such a personal thing... What colour would you add if you did?

I've been looking at checks too.

Can't decide on a colour - I love deep purpley reds but am aslo drawn towards some of the greeny duck egg blue colours I've seen.

I'm off to get DS now and then heading to the fabric shop in town for some samples.

It's hard - it's so much money to spend and I really want to get it spot on.

Where abouts do you live? There is a great fabric shop in Sutton near Croydon which has the most fabulous checks. I bought some material for our au pairs room which has checks in cream, pale blue, lilac, deep purple and charcoal. Sounds a bit messy, but it's really dramatic and beautiful material. We're going to have the same in our living room because dh and I like it so much...

we have soothing neutrals in the bedroom too, and have plain cream curtains.

IMO curtains are too exepensive to use as an 'accent' as the whole point of accents is they're replacable when you get bored with them.

I'd get plain curtains and a gorgeous bedspread / bedlinen for colour instead.

Have you thought about roman blinds. I think they look lovely on sashes because you can see and admire the windows. Less fabic, so cheaper, and a more subtle splash of colour.
Love checks, have laura ashley checks in all our bedrooms.

We have similar windows and have white roman blinds and natural linen tab tops from habitat on black iron poles Really simple but lovely and not too expensive hth

I tend to buy Laura Ashley material in the sales and have it made into curtains by a relative. I usually buy a bit extra so that we can also have cushion covers made or a bean bag cover or a gym bag or whatever. Take a look at the LA website and if you're not in a rush for the curtains, have a shortlist of ones you like best and look out for them in the sales. Sign up for e-mail newsletters and you'll know when they are.

I had been thinking about Roman Blinds. We havn't had curtains for three years (no neighbours just cows) an I like the look of the windows.

Noddy - your room sounds like one of my ideas. We are also getting a new bed, black iron framed and it's going to be in front of the smaller sash window so having neutral curtains makes sense and I can do the Mrs Badger thing with a quilt and cushions and stuff.

Might try Laura Ashley later too. I went in on Wednesday but they were putting all the new stock out and was hard to look properly.

Can't wait to have a decent bedroom
