Is there any way to make bedding softer?

We've just moved and I need new bedding. I suffer with eczema so usually can only have flanellete bedding as its so soft. However there's some really nice cotton bedding on sale, but it's always really scratchy and horrible! How can I make it soft and actually sleepable?

Soda crystals in the wash (replace one tablespoon of powder with soda crystals). About £1 for a big bag - lasts ages. Try to buy good quality bedding in cotton - I find cheaper sheets like Ikea are scratchy.

I find using the dryer rather than line drying usually makes things softer. Works with towels.
