Best way to remove paint?

My garage is painted black and white, but now I want to repaint it with all white.

Shall I paint a few coats of white to cover the parts where it is painted black or shall I remove the black paint first? If it is better to remove the paint, then can someone suggest the best and cheapest way to remove the black paint?

What is the garage made of? That will make a difference to how you tackle it.

yes i agree with it depends on what the garage door is made of. You may just be able to get away with painting over the black paint as oppose to removing it. If you do decide to remove the black paint then i would use a heat gun to help you strip the paint.
