I have a routine written on a whiteboard and stuck to the side of my fridge
I'm a recovering tip-dweller (I've NC'd but the "THANKYOU!!" thread in housekeeping is me if you're interested!) and I find I need to have a routine laid out for me, otherwise I just can't decide which jobs to do when so nothing gets done.
To devise the list I split the house in rooms and then categorized the rooms into "high traffic", "medium traffic" and "low traffic". High traffic get attention every day, medium get an hour a week or so and low traffic get about 30 mins a week. I don't do any more than 20 mins cleaning per night and DP does all the laundry. I also do 1 hour on Saturday mornings.
On the list below when i say "tidy" that includes wiping down the sides, binning rubbish, emptying bins etc.
Here's my current list:
Monday: Tidy kitchen and living room, wipe round downstairs bathroom and hoover & steam mop the downstairs of the house (kitchen, living room, downstairs bathroom).
Tuesday: Tidy kitchen and living room, tidy bedrooms and upstairs bathroom.
Wednesday: Tidy kitchen and living room, hoover & Steam Mop upstairs
Thursday: Tidy Kitchen & Living Room & tidy craft room if needed
Friday: Tidy kitchen and living room, Wash bathmats, cushion covers and dog bedding, do a monthly job (list of these below)
Saturday: Tidy Kitchen & Living room and do any jobs missed during the week, clean fish tank (water change day) and vac & steam mop downstairs.
Sunday: Tidy Kitchen and living room and NOTHING ELSE
Monthly Jobs List:
Clean Oven inside and out
Hoover behind sofas
Clean out cupboards and bin out of date stuff
Steam clean grout in the bathrooms and kitchen (this is so much fun!!)
Wipe down skirting and doors downstairs
Wash Curtains
Steam carpets
Wild card - (any jobs/ organisation projects I want to get done!)
That's it :) I do have a relatively small house but I also have 2 very messy dogs! I can get round the whole house with this list and it keeps on top of everything :)
