Which I stupidly didn't move out of DSs reach? It's all sticky and horrible and ground in!

Sponge with plain water.
It is only sugar solution so you just need to keep going until you have diluted it and soaked it up enough times. 2 buckets, one for clean water, one to squeeze into.

Dr.Beckmann have a carpet cleaner, i think it's worth giving that a try.
