Maggots in the food bin

Need urgent help please. I saw maggots in our food bin, collection tomorrow. I bet it was the chicken carcass. I sprayed fly spray on them which helped but I was being inpatient. I'm trying to drown them with boiling water. But how do I dispose the dead bodies? arrgggh, please help!

We have big rubbish and recycling bins collected fort nightly then a little green caddy for food waste they collect those every week.

MyEyesNeedBleeching · 15/08/2016 17:38

Our food waste is collected weekly, thankfully. Garden waste and recycling/general waste is collected fortnightly.

I tried composting once, opened it after a while and the drum had large spiders and other garden related crawling insects. Then I read online that composting could attract mice? I would prefer it all got collected weekly.

I had a waste disposal fitted because of this - no more maggots!

Have a food disposal here too did not stop the maggots. No idea what caused them but was awful

It's an awful thing to find, I actually bumped into my bin men on the day of disposal and they were very lovely and said it happened very often! I'm going to give them a few bottle of wine next week to say thank you

Mine also collected weekly

MrsCaptainWentworth · 15/08/2016 19:59

Pepsi Maybe someone put food in your bin.

PepsiPenguins · 15/08/2016 20:07

I double wrap everything as have cats, and never had issues in the past

My neighbours who are just leaving have been horrendous it would not surprise me if they left trails of something as it was on the handle and down the side of the bin

PepsiPenguins · 15/08/2016 20:09

I appreciate that sounds dramatic but really have awful neighbours

Ours is a combination food waste and garden waste wheelie bin collected weekly. Is it different in other areas?

e1y1 · 18/08/2016 18:37

This is the reason I outright refuse to use the food bin.

Same as PP, in a GOOD bin bag and then in the main black bin.

Unfortunately, our black bin collection is once every 3 weeks :( We're the first area in the country to trial it, and surprise surprise the council say it is working. Family member is a bin man and he confirms categorically it is NOT working, but they have just rolled it out to the next locality, so would imagine it will be country wide soon.

e1y1 · 18/08/2016 18:38

Oh and we have 4 wheelie bins :/

Boiling water then throw it on the grass, never see the maggots again, think the birds eat them.
