Mouldy machine- beyond salvage?

My washing machine is very mouldy, the door rubber seals which I've tried to clean fairly unsuccessfully and also the detergent drawer- not thdboy you remove but the casing it slides into-is covered in black and impossible to properly reach to clean. We've had this fairly cheap machine for 7 yrs. is it salvageable or am I justified in replacing it

the slot for the soap drawer, spray it with "Kitchen Cleaner With Bleach," let it soak in, then scrub with a stiff nylon toothbrush, especially the "ceiling". You can also put your powder through the door of the machine instead of in the drawer.

Do a few hot hot hot service washes with no soap, no fabsoft, and a cup of washing soda. You can put white cotton towels and flannels in if you have them, they will not fade or be damaged by the heat. You will find they foam up because of the soap residue.

Scrub the rubber door seal, especially the groove or pleat, with a coarse cotton cloth such as a rag of old towelling. You can use the same spray and rinse off with clean water afterwards.

Check the instructions to see you are not using too much soap or fabsoft. It builds up a residue in the machine and clothes. You can use soda in your normal wash and cut down on the soap, use the measure for "soft water" wash.

You may find your whites get softer and whiter as the residue is washed out.

oh, and leave the door and drawer open so it can air and dry out.

Hi I do exactly what piglet does. About once a month. A good brush to use is an old baby bottle cleaning one, you can buy them quite cheap in the pound shop ..... There a pound ......

The seal on my washing had gone a bit mouldy. Ds rammed a load in and caught a sock in between the seal and the door. It was dragged around the seal during the wash and cleaned it beautifully . I am not recommending this as a course of action. The sock did not come off too well.

I ended up buying a replacement seal for mine on ebay. Just couldn't get the black off it but it transferred onto my washing on a regular basis. It was pretty pricey at £90 but I have a 10 year old Miele that I will never be able to afford again!
