Are there any pearls of mumsnet wisdom aa to how to get rid of the buggers?

They like warm, damp environments and eat cellulose and glue, amongst other things. Get rid of the moisture and they will go. So make sure you ventilate a bathroom and that everywhere is properly sealed.

You can use diatomaceous earth, it dehydrates them and kills them. Its a chalky powder that you put down. Diatomaceous earth can be food-grade/edible no idea why you would want to eat it! so is 100% safe for kids/animals which is why I ended up using it! It worked.

Leave the door open so the place doesn't remain moist for extended periods of time.

Thing is, leaving the door open will let condensation affect the rest of the house or flat. A better idea is to fit a powerful extractor fan and use it.
