Getting rid of candle wax

ok, hardly the most important problem but..

I was given a pair of silver plate candlesticks for my 21st. They are pretty plain, but with ridges and grooves, iyswim. They have baize bottoms and herein lies the problem. I cannot put them in hot water to get rid of the wax that drips on them. I did once and the baize has never been the same.. Stupid student me. Obv a knife would scratch. I try to use my nails, have just tried a plastic fork with reasonably soft tines and thought I was managing quite nicely. But when I came to shine them, darn it there was pink silver polish on wax in the grooves.

What do I do? Cotton bud dipped in boiling water?

Don't want to get rid if the, sentimental value, and like using them.

My Swedish aunt has tons of candles.

She runs them under the hot tap, not boiling. You need to cover the pug hole though with old tights or newspaper to drain through.

How hot was the water last time?

Very hot. The problem is getting the baize bottoms wet!

Good idea on the tights or newspaper...

Stand them on a towel in the sink, cover the plug hole.... No wax must get down there, worse than fat for the drains.
I would slowly pour hot water around them letting the towel take the water than the baize????

Could you try using a nail brush and very hot water?

Dung, the problem is that will be the last straw for the baize bottoms. Otherwise I'd agree.

Please, I was thinking about a toothbrush..

Hair drier to soften the wax so you can pick it out?

Brilliant Ideas. I shall try hot water via cotton where I can. And see of the hairdryer does its trick. Can't try for the next few days but will report back in due course...
