How good is your washer and who makes it?

I know it's not as sexy as the Leave/Remain war, but it's a lot more important than that Wink

My washer has packed in after only 2 years. Very tell me to take it up with Candy, Candy just keep repeating "Our warrenty is for 12 months" and the washing machine repair people laughed their socks off when I expressed surprise at it's demise because it's Candy and they're a good name.

So who is a good name?

I'm a looking at a Hoover one atm.

I always swore by AEG and have found Bosch to be every bit as good.

Oh and Candy and Hoover are the same company!

As are Hotpoint / Indesit / Creda

I think they've all been ranked on the most unreliable washing machine list.

Oh bugger.

I knew about Candy/Hotpoint but the repair bloke said that despite that Hotpoint "isn't as bad"

He didn't say they were good either, to be fair. His opinion is that I should buy a reconditioned one from his shop, which would be an excellent idea, had they not sold the last one just before I got there.

I have 3 washing machines (don't ask Shock) they are all Siemens and v v good. They have lasted years without fault.

Having three washers is very sensible.

I wish I had three washers. I haven't had a washer for two weeks. I initially thought it was blocked, so took the u-bend off. And then discovered that the pipes were all the wrong the size and not a single plumber in the land understands how or why they were on in the first place. I had to wait a week to get new ones. Then the washer still didn't work and I had to wait another week for the repair people to tell me it was dead.

I am drowning in dirty washing and my new goal in life is to collect as many washing machines as possible Grin

Same company doesn't really mean much if they run them as different brands aiming at different demographics.

I wouldn't touch Hoover with a barge pole. The first one I had was ace, lasted 10 years and never had a bit of bother from it so in my wisdom (hah!) I thought I'd replace with another Hoover. It was the biggest pile of poo from day one, shook and rattled when loaded with anything more than a bath towel and never got anything properly clean. Hoover came out a couple of times when it was still under warranty and said all was fine and didn't understand why it used to chase the dog across the kitchen on a fast spin.
I ditched it after 2 years when it spilled its guts all over the kitchen floor, I was so glad to say goodbye to it. Replaced it with a Bosch and wish I'd done it in the first place. Has all the functions I need, it's quiet and washes properly - oh and it doesn't chase the dog so she approves!

It's nice and big and I like the sound of the steam thingy. I own a very stinky dog and very stinky teenagers.

We had a Hotpoint that only lasted 2 years. Replaced it with a cheap Beko as it was all we could afford at the time. For £180, it was fantastic. Lots of options and a time remaining display. The wash times were a bit long but it lasted 6 years of constant use before the motor brushes wore out. It was repairable but by then we were updating all our appliances anyway so invested in a Miele, which is now 5 years old. Worth every penny.

The Beko went to a friend of ours who still has it.

I will only buy Bosch washing machines and dishwashers, have found them to be excellent.

I have an LG. It's a few months old and replaced my hotpoint. It has a fast wash option which will take no more than one hour. Maybe even less time, it weighs the load and decides. I do like it, and one of the best things about it is that it actually unlocks the door while playing it's little 'I'm finished!' tune. I hate the couple of minutes that most washers keep the door locked for. WHY? "DING I'm finished! Yeah I'm not gonna unlock the door for you though until you've forgotten you were waiting for this load to end and started doing something else. HAHA I'm a wanker"

I have Miele
11 years old. Still excellent
Would replace with another Miele when the time comes
Previously had Hotpoint, Creda etc and was lucky to get 2 years from them

I went with the Beko one, encouraged by rabbits posts, so if I'm back in 2 years asking about washers again, it's her fault Grin

It does shiny things with steam and is bigger than what I had.

I could have added a 5 year warrenty but I opted out. It said that accidental damage was not covered and I'm not convinced if it went tits up they wouldn't say I'd caused it to wriggle out of paying up. I'm going to get white goods insurance instead.

We have a Miele. The delivery men said "we won't see you again for a long time; we generally pick up a twenty year old earlier model when we drop these off."

It wasn't cheap but it's been great and I use lots of different washes, all of which are better than on my previous machines.

I do a twenty minute express wash every day for bibs, floor mats, vomity toys and sometimes swimming costumes and was surprised how effective it was. Most days we also do a dark automatic, light cottons or a 60/90° nappy wash too. It is really thorough at cleaning and the fast spin means everything dries really quickly too.

I use the delicates wash for bras and tights plus for machine washable woollens, (and one DH's suit trousers by accident!). The clothes have never been damaged on that cycle but do need a soak first to get any sweaty smells out.

I have quite a lot of handwash only woollen items and the wool cycle is fine for them but again a soak before is useful if they have any soiling or smells. In fact it is so gentle that I have been able to use DS's lanolised woollen nappy covers straight after washing without re lanolising as it didn't seem to remove the lanolin.

Miele! Okay they're pricey BUT mine is about 13 years old now (washer/dryer) and it's never given me a days trouble! I paid just under £1k for it so less than £100 per year already.

The delivery driver said it was the rolls Royce of washing machines :)
I would not have an Indesit ever again or a hotpoint

I would love to buy a new (expensive) washing machine, but my ancient Zanussi soldiers on thoughtlessly with no problems. What am I doing wrong? Smile

Boosh is 12 years old and no issues. Will replace with Boosh or Milie if we can afford it

We have a Hoover and I don't think it washes well at all but it refuses to die after 10 years of reasonable use!!!!!

Watching with interest as I am always praying for its imminent demise...
