Untreated leather smell

Not strictly speaking housekeeping (I really don't belong here) but hoping somebody can help.
I've been given a lovely new leather handbag. However it is straight from the medina in Morocco & stinks of cow.
I'm reliably informed that if I just use it for a couple of YEARS it will go, but how can I take it to an open plan office or on the tube??

Any ideas?

I had a pair of leather slippers like this ( also from Marrakech. Had to bin them.... Smell got worse not better... Sorry

Sounds like it needs a good clean to remove that cow smell from your leather handbag. Get yourself a leather cream and conditioner with a cloth and apply it to your handbag to not only clean the leather but also remove any odors from it.
