Are you on freecycle? Bookshelves come up from time to time around here. (I am not intentionally following you btw, it's just that all the threads I click on seem to be yours)

morningpaper · 18/01/2007 10:50

oh YES I do agree

I have NO nice bookshelves - I have some which cost a fiver each but they look just AWFUL and they are no where near sufficient for my books

I've spotted some on Ebay though for a quid and I'm hoping to pick them

Fillyjonk · 18/01/2007 11:11

lol

have emailed you btw tick

I haven't actually got space for more storage either

not unless I attatch things to the wall and we don't do that, oh no cos ...appparently, it could affect the value of our house

ffs

and yes this is the same house which has cream coloured carpets and has benefitted from 2 toddlers being toilet trained...

OP posts:
beckybrastraps · 18/01/2007 11:12

Uh? Attaching things to the wall affects the value of your house?

TooTicky · 18/01/2007 11:12

I will be replying later when my brain is less frivolous and fragmentedI think the wind has scrambled it

Fillyjonk · 18/01/2007 11:13

yes

because then there are holes in the wall

ffs

TooTicky · 18/01/2007 11:15

Filly, is dd toilet trained? Omg, you are GOOD! I thought ds1 was super clever initiating it himself at 19m and getting it sorted within a month. (Mind you, mil had dp trained at 9m, or so she says...)

Fillyjonk · 18/01/2007 11:19

ah no

training I said. was very careful...

no she's decided to start using the potty, i think just cos every other kid around her does. good sucess rate actually. but i cannot stand the toilet trining stage so am not really encouraging her...

OP posts:
beckybrastraps · 18/01/2007 11:19

Right...

All my bookcases are attached to the wall. My children are climbers...

Fillyjonk · 18/01/2007 11:20

becky how did you do that?

can you buy some sort of big fixing thing to wall thing or do i have to get someone in?

OP posts:
beckybrastraps · 18/01/2007 11:33

LOL

You could use a small bracket screwed to the bookcase and the wall.

Or IKEA sell little straps that attach to each. In fact, I think all IKEA bookcases come with them as standard. (I know, I know, IKEA, but cheap and cheerful for the children's bedrooms).

If you can handle a drill and a screwdriver, you can do it.

I KNOW aviatrix, I KNOW

this is a source of great contention.

hmm

and they don't fall down, becky? do I need a power drill?

OP posts:
ItsMeMellowma · 18/01/2007 11:41

I have little holes in DS bedroom wall too.

He slyly (sp) to a small screw-driver and must have sat for ages just digging into the wall

ItsMeMellowma · 18/01/2007 11:42

took it

beckybrastraps · 18/01/2007 12:31

I guess it depends what your walls are made off. But yes, I think to drill a hole in a wall a power drill would be best.

And the little Ikea things have held firm even with ds scaling the shelves.

beckybrastraps · 18/01/2007 12:33

DH shared arented house once. His housemate moved out before the end of the let, and it was only on the last day that dh realised there were drill holes in the housemate's bedroom wall. No polyfilla. Used toothpaste instead .
Was more concerned about the shame of inferior materials than the dishonesty.

Tatties · 18/01/2007 12:37

Oh Filly, me too...

Fillyjonk · 18/01/2007 14:02

I have come to the conclusion that the solution is to have more money

OP posts:
CountessDracula · 18/01/2007 14:05

no it's not
I have loads of money and my house is still a shite hole!

Fillyjonk · 18/01/2007 14:07
