oh we are talking IKEA crappola laminate btw cos thats all I can afford

I have the most manky, vile carpets in the whole world and am now prepared to remortgage my firstborn to get rid of them.

Right I think its hideous but less so than cream coloured carpets which have hosted drunken parties and 2 toilet training toddlers.

But it has that b&q chic feel

aaargh.

Help.

I had to hand sweep our carpets when I was pg with dd2, it was hell! (no working hoover, no money).

So what is lino made of?

TooTicky · 18/01/2007 11:02

Oh god I am going to sound thick. Is linoleum an element or something? It sounds like one

GrumpyOldHorsewoman · 18/01/2007 11:03

Obviously would prefer real wood, but would still have to sya that laminate is 100 times better than carpet. The carpets in our house were so bad when we moved in (even though a company had spent 5 HOURS cleaning them) that I just had to rip them up and install laminate. The carpets made the house smell. UUUURRRGGHHH.

Definitely prefer laminate - so much cleaner and more practical, and it's not that bad. Lay down a couple of rugs here and there, and 'voila' (Washable, cotton rugs, of course)

Kittypickle · 18/01/2007 11:06

Anything is better than carpet. I am desperate to get ours out of hall and living room. We have real wood in the kitchen and it is brilliant, so easy to clean. We do have floorboards under the carpet in the hall and I think I might rip the carpet up and sand the boards. I cringe when I see all the mud going all over the carpet.

Fillyjonk · 18/01/2007 11:08

right, how hard is laminate to fit?

what about lino?

other option is sanding but tbh can't see us doing that til kids are older.

SO WHAT IS IT MADE OF?

Lorina · 18/01/2007 11:11

Not vile at all. Some of it is excellent ,you just need to shop around a bit, (and price isnt necessarily an indicator)

Putting it down really well helps it look good too. Its an easy job for a DH as long as he takes a bit of care.

CodArtist · 18/01/2007 11:15

Don't like carpets at all, although we have them on the stairs and in the kids room but everywhere else is laminate. Would love real wood but seriously cannot afford it. Laminate is easy to keep clean and looks tidy.

Fillyjonk · 18/01/2007 11:16

oh sorry tick.

you're right, linoleum is an element, just after deuternium.

actually i'm guessing its from linseed oil?

NotAnOtter · 18/01/2007 11:16

i have gone off it in recent years - prefer wood or stripped boards

TooTicky · 18/01/2007 11:17

LaLaLa...can anybody hear me? Or does nobody actually know?

TooTicky · 18/01/2007 11:17

Tutter · 18/01/2007 11:41

sorry, but i loathe laminate flooring

think there are other, affordable, options

i would sell my soul for solid oak flooring, and may well do so for the next house

suzycreamcheese · 18/01/2007 11:43

why does carpet have to be cream?
i think warmer nicer; had laminate before; would do wood, lino, carpet anything before laminate, its hard to walk on the cheaper stuff, feels drafty..(dont like shoes indoors) and not comfortable ...no not for me, ta..

BIL is putting laminate in bedrooms

choosyfloosy · 18/01/2007 12:01

oooh lovely linoleum well almost

otherwise - large non-fitted rugs on top of the carpets? but clearly you hate them

choosyfloosy · 18/01/2007 12:03

Cork tiles for bathroom? we had them when i was a kid - so warm and comfy, really nice

not sure on eco-ness, though at least offers new markets for cork producers left stranded by screw-top bottles
