Ok, so I'm not a complete clean freak but I am also not a slob. My MIL seems to think differently though. I'm just curious as to how often you clean:

Behind/under sofa
Oven
Fridge
Under beds
Scrub skirting boards
Hoover
Mop

Thanks Smile

Behind the sofa- every 6 months when furniture gets rotated.
Oven- had it two years, never done it yet!
Fridge - every 2-3 months unless spillage.
Under beds- very rarely. Maybe once or twice a year.
Skirting boards- never scrubbed. Dusted 2 or 3 times a month.
Hoover- most days.
Mop- kitchen floor only, twice a month?

Icouldbeknitting · 29/05/2016 08:39

Surely the deal is that your MIL can clean her skirting boards as often as she likes, they're hers after all. People choose to spend their time in different ways and if she wants to spend every waking hour cleaning well that's her choice but not one that she can impose on others.

I wipe the skirting boards when I think they need it or once a year
Under the settee - every six weeks
under beds - never (I can't move them)
hoover - most days (children make the floors crunchy)
oven - once a year maybe?
fridge - every couple of months

P1nkP0ppy · 29/05/2016 08:47

Behind/under sofa - only if it's being moved to decorate. It hasn't got enough room under it for anything to go
Under beds? One's a divan so never, the other two have storage boxes under them so probably never
Hoover - couple of times a week, only two of us here, no pets.
Oven - twice a year?
Fridge - if something's been spilt
Skirting boards - three times a year? Scrubbed only when repainted
Mop- kitchen/loo/bathroom/hall once a week unless something spilt.
😊

YorkieDorkie · 29/05/2016 08:49

Behind/under sofa - twice a year perhaps? It's hard to move.
Oven - twice a year probably, it's 20 years old so never looks any cleaner.
Fridge - give it a wipe every couple of months if I spot something.
Under beds - we don't have any "under beds".
Scrub skirting boards - never, they get dusted every week so they aren't ever dirty.
Hoover - once a week (we only have a baby and no pets so it's never that bad).
Mop - every couple of days give the kitchen and orangery a once-over.

NapQueen · 29/05/2016 08:54

Under sofa - when I can't find any bottles
Fridge - when it smells
Under beds - we have pull out drawers so never
Skirting boards - never. I Vac the dust off when I hoover
Hoover - once a week or after a messy meal
Mop - 3 times a week. Wooden floors throughout and lino in kitchen and bathroom.

MackerelOfFact · 29/05/2016 09:02

Behind/under sofa - twice a year, if that. The thing weighs an absolute tonne.

Oven - maybe 3 times a year, but I do agree with quickly wiping down, it does make a difference (and full-on oven cleaning is such an awful job).

Fridge - I wipe it if its grubby or niffy, but other than that I run the shelves through the dishwasher maybe once a month or even less, when it's nearly empty.

Under beds - Maybe 5-6 times a year? Mine aren't that hard to get to though.

Scrub skirting boards - Erm, only when redecorating. I dust them perhaps once a month.

Hoover - once or twice a week.

Mop - every 1-2 weeks.

Behind/under sofa
Once a week...We have four kids and the amount of food and toys found after just a week is horrifying

Oven
Never ;) DH cleans maybe every 6 months with chemicals and we have those plastic covers to catch drips. We really need to do this a lot more.

Fridge
I wipe out with a damp cloth, remove out of date things once a week before online food delivery arrives. Take out drawers and wash completely after a food or drink spill

Under beds
All under beds have under bed trays. Probably hoover once every couple of months maybe less.

Scrub skirting boards
Never. Hoover them or wipe own with a baby wipe when I see them.

Hoover
Twice daily minimum for downstairs (four kids remember)
Stairs & upstairs once a week.

Mop
Once a week and for spills.

Gosh, children are so messy ! Can't wait until I can only have to hoover twice a week !

Lweji · 29/05/2016 14:38

Behind/under sofa - cleaner every two weeks, will always do it when cleaning house weekly.
Oven - if it looks very dirty - or cleaner (who seems to have higher standards than mine)
Fridge - when there are obvious spillages.
Under beds - also every other week. Mine is more difficult, as I have to remove the mattress - so, when deep cleaning.
Scrub skirting boards - will hoover if they look dirty on top
Hoover - cleaner every other week, I will do it (or use a broom) to the dirtiest areas if they need.
Mop - cleaner every other week.

It's only me and DS and an indoors cat, though. With laminate flooring or tiles.

Fyaral · 29/05/2016 14:45

I am slovenly but it's just DP and me so things don't get that minging. The house looms fine most of the time.

Behind under sofa - probs once a year.

Oven - less than I should. Probs 18 months between cleans.

Skirting boards get a wipe it I see muckiness when spring cleaning every few months.

Fridge when it needs it if something gets spilled or it looks mucky.

Hoover weekly.

Mop probably monthly. Wipe floor in kitchen when needed. Floor in sitting room covered in rugs.

Most stuff is done when I notice it. E.g. bedding washes when it whiffs slightly. Have higher standards than DP as his office is a pit and I hate it. I refuse to clean it and will throw a tantrum when all the glasses and crockery is down there.

Sofabitch · 29/05/2016 14:52

Behind/under sofa- maybe once or twice a year.,. Depends if I need to find something under there

Oven- um... I think I've done it once

Fridge- spills get wiped up if they happen and a full clean maybe every 4/5 months

Under beds-- never unless I change the rooms around.

Scrub skirting boards- never

Hoover- maybe once a week but I have laminate downstairs and that gets swept daily.

Mop- I'd very rarely mop. But my cleaner mops through once a week... Actually thinking about it I think she runs the mop over the skirting boards occasionally

Fyaral · 29/05/2016 14:52

And under beds never get done unless I'm moving them. Ain't no one got time to be shifting my beds about.

OurBlanche · 29/05/2016 14:57

Behind/under sofa twice a year(ish) when we swap them round
Oven I have only owned it for 2 years, so it doesn't need doing yet Smile Hob gets done properly 1 x month(ish)
Fridge meh if/when it smells
Under beds twice a year, when we do the summer/winter clothing thing (I store jumpers/light clothing under there)
Scrub skirting boards More often than I thought. I've got a high ceiling on the stairs so I bought an extendable pole that takes different heads (thanks Dunelm Smile). One is a purple microfibre 'swiffer'. So I mooch around and do highs and lows every couple of weeks
Hoover Well, I have just hoovered and cleaned the carpets. So that's that for a week or so!
Mop Ah! Not as often as I probably should, every month, maybe!

Life's too short and a bit of dust never really hurt anyone!

Wordsaremything · 29/05/2016 15:21

Behind/under sofa twice a decade
Oven once a year
Fridge twice a year
Under beds weekly - I have iron bedsteads so easy Peasy
Scrub skirting boards - is this a thing? Never scrubbed a skirting board.
Hoover weekly
Mop weekly (usually.)

Hellothereitsme · 29/05/2016 15:24

I don't think your MIL is wrong. In an ideal world we would clean as per your list. Sadly I work full time and have 2 kids. I'm not about to spend my free time cleaning when I could be enjoying the time with my kids or wasting my time on MN.

ChesterFuckingDraws · 29/05/2016 15:37

Behind/under sofa: every time I Hoover due to having hard floors.

Oven: wiped after each use if there's an obvious spill-scrubbed about twice a year.

Fridge: same as oven!

Under beds: once a month. Should really do it more often but I don't have time for that.

Scrub skirting boards: get Hoover and wiped with the duster each time the Hoover is out.

Hoover: twice a week

Mop: never. Hard floors get hoovered twice a week and washed (hands and knees with a bucket of water) once a fortnight.

bluescreen · 08/11/2017 23:54

Resurrecting to ask:
Behind the fridge?
Blush
Convo with someone today suggests it should be at least once a year.
Um.
