I've managed to spill candle wax on a side table & fireplace hearth , how can I remove without scratching the surfaces ? Tia

A Stanley knife blade and get it from underneath long ways (if that makes sense)

Or a warm iron and kitchen paper. HTH.

I think there's a trick with brown paper & the iron where the wax melts & stocks to the paper.

Flake it off with a plastic spatula or credit card.

A fairly gentle heat ( to melt the wax) and some kind of absorbent paper to soak it up/mush it off.

Although given the surfaces, a credit card also sounds good.

WD40 will also work - spray some on kitchen roll and rub the wax off.

Use a hair dryer to gently melt the wax and wipe with kitchen paper, if it's a soy wax candle it will melt quicker than a paraffin one
