how to remove parcel tape?

When we moved house we used brown parcel/packing tape to keep the wardrobe doors shut. Now a beautiful oak wardrobe is left with bits of tape on it. Does anyone know how to remove it without damaging the wardrobe? We've tried kitchen roll soaked in vinegar and hot soapy water.

After trying everything on a table I bought at the bargain basement at ikea, I went to polish it and found that Pledge took it straight off! Could be worth a try.

I saw on Kim and aggys cleaning programme a while that one of them used mayonnaise to remove stickers/stickers residue from a wardrobe. Could be worth a try.

Furniture polish. Spray it over the sticky area and leave for a minute to soak in, then rub off.
