Lakeland do a brilliant oven cleaner. You brush it on, leave for a bit and then wipe off. Takes several applications if oven is a bit neglected.

I have also tried before to clean after baking (if I don't forget); otherwise heat to a lowish setting (120 to 150 C). Put a bowl in with hot water and lemon juice or vinegar to get a bit of steam going. Take bowl out and use scouring pad on metal parts and maybe something like Hobrite on the glass door if you are worried to scratch the glass. I find the steam losens the grease, etc but you still have to put in a bit of elbow grease.

Does come up nice and is worth the effort.

ooh fab will try the steam then bein thanks. (we're limited really on what we can use as it's army they have been known to charge you for a new cooker if the black inside it's taken off as my old neighbour did once.)

Vim is a traditional scouirng powder , liek old fashioned Ajax ! Warm the oven and then clean with a little on a hot damp cloth - doesn't scratch but cuts through grease.

turn the gas off
