Tremendously scummy water filter jug.

Not mine, I hasten to add, but my mother's.

Any amazing tips I should be aware of...?

I get that. One of those green and yellow sponge scourer pads and elbow grease saved mine with lots of hot soapy water then drying meticulously everytime I filled it up from the tap in future

Wasn't that crusted though-

time to buy another Blush?

Dishwasher! Stick it through a couple of hot cycles and hope for the best.

or 'lose' it in the bin

Does it come apart? Has she been filtering pond water for decades?

WordGetsAround · 25/04/2016 22:02

You need a great descailer. Vikal is brilliant - I'd soak it for an hour and see how it looks then.

WordGetsAround · 25/04/2016 22:03

*descaler

White vinegar.... It works for everything so why not? Grin

QuimReaper · 26/04/2016 08:26

I would dearly love to lose it in the bin.

It's only a couple of years old, maybe three - I was the one who bought it for her!

I guess we do live in a hard water area but how she can have just never ever washed it up is beyond me Confused

Thank you for the descaler tip, I'll nip out and get some! (Whilst I'm getting her some oven pride...) (And some fresh filters, since I dread to think when she last changed it...) I was wondering about vinegar and bicarbonate?

Post it up to me and I'll run it through a few hot dishwasher cycles! All the best with descaling Smile

I've just reread your name and realised my abbreviation of it was very strange Blush

Has anything worked?

QuimReaper · 27/04/2016 21:02

It's come up an absolute TREAT, thank you so much! One sachet of Oust descaler has done miracles! Grin Grin

Using another sachet on the rest of the jug now Grin
