Dirty Toilet Bowl

Afternoon,

I am in the process of buying a new house and its generally grubby. We are going to have to sugar soap the walls as they currently leave white powder over anyone straying too close and the kitchen just feels a bit grim but looks fine. However one of the loos has disgusting fairly thick and ingrained brown stains in loo bowl. I am aware that just using bleach will make the stains white, but the build up will not have gone away. Does anyone have any recommendations for the best way to get rid of the filth please? Many thanks.

Domestos limescale remover in the black and green bottle. Push down the water over the u-bend with the brush and then squirt it all round and leave it overnight then scrub and flush. May need a few applications if its caked on limescale.

Now, this might sound daft, but it works.
Use a plastic cup to get the water out of the U bend. Soak kitchen roll in cloudly lemonade or coke-cola and plaster the sides of the toilet with it. Make sure it's fairly dripping. Leave it overnight and then just wipe it all off the next morning. The citric acid in the lemonade/coke will drastically soften the limescale, you can then use a scourer and normal toilet cleaner to scrub off what's left. Actually a pumice stone works really well for attacking stubborn spots as it won't scratch the enamel of the toilet bowl.

Throw 2 steradent tablets (the ones for cleaning false teeth) and leave overnight. Flush in morning and repeat until all clean. Worked on our own! Also great for cleaning tea/coffee stains from cups.

Citric acid from wilkos.

Ooh, lots more ideas! There are 3 loos, so I could test a lot!

Add coca cola to the list (you'll wish you had more loos) that works wonders.
Bleach will actually dissolve organic matter such as mould (common in unflushed loos) and faecal matter but it sounds as if you have limescale so you need the big guns for that.

Our new house the loos were grim. I stuck bottle after bottle of domestos that pp mentioned down for about two weeks every night. Then I got my hand down and pulled it off. Was coming off in chunks some an inch long and half inch thick. Is lovely now. Didn't need to do more than a light wipe after that.
