What's wrong with my oven?

Recently moved so acquired a new (to us) oven, actually ten years old. It is taking ages to cook anything and nothing gets crispy, but the oven thermometer I bought is matching the oven's own assessment of the temperature. Could it be the fan? It seems to be going round but I'm not getting the same 'blast' when I open it that I did from our previous one. I just can't work out why it would take so long to cook stuff though if it is at the right temperature. Argh! My pizzas are horrible.

Maybe your old oven was over temperature?

BaroquePearl · 03/04/2016 15:35

Yes, I did wonder about that. Quite likely it was a bit, but surely it shouldn't take 45 minutes to just about bake a thin 2 egg sponge cake at 180 degrees? I'm wondering if my oven thermometer and the oven's thermostat are both wrong.

Hmm - see what you mean. Should be around 25 minutes for that. Do you lower the temperature as indicated for fan ovens? You could try not doing that. Otherwise I wonder if the fan needs cleaning or replacing?

Yes, I am still using fan oven temps and timings, which in my old oven worked in textbook fashion. It's a good idea to try adjusting as if I didn't have a fan at all, thanks.

The whole thing looks super clean but perhaps it's worn out. I wish the problem were more obvious! I really don't feel like calling someone out.

Is it a lamona oven?

BaroquePearl · 04/04/2016 09:02

No, AEG. A double built-under thing, and pretty small as a consequence.
