Is there a miracle carpet cleaner?

Due to 6 kittens being litter trained, two puppies and two messy children I have a very dirty/stained carpet. It's not just the fact that it's (well, it used to be) a light beige carpet in a rented house and the landlord is due to visit soon-it's more a problem that I'm due to give birth soon and have decided that I CAN'T bring a baby into this house until the carpet's clean. Are there any miracle solutions out there? On hands and knees with 1001 foam as we speak.

would you be able to afford someone to come in and do it for you, maybe you could get a quote and see how expensive it is,

ask your landlord to put laminate down it is much more child and pet friendly

itsazoohere · 07/01/2007 17:22

No! Very poor right now-prob due to all the reasons causing the carpet to get so dirty. Agree laminate would be better, but landlord wouldn't do it and it's the only room downstairs that has carpet.

Is there no miracle cure using bicarb and vinegar? Seriously, I know it's just hormones (nesting maybe?), but I'm nearly in tears here.

the only carpet cleaner i have used is the vanish one,
you can hire a cleaner from homebase, or do you know any one with one, might be worth asking around?

have you got any rugs you could put over the worse bits?

itsazoohere, where are you? There may be an mumsnetter with a bissel that'll come and do it for you? I would if you're near me. My bissel is great

Having said that haven't done my own for a while but somehow find the energy to do others

satinshoes · 08/01/2007 11:08

i have a bissel and its great. got hot chocolate up the other day when dh spilt it. (still wet though not sure it would work on dry stain) but it also got up some of dds potty training accidents.

choosyfloosy · 08/01/2007 11:11

wot's a bissel then?

satinshoes · 10/01/2007 10:45

bissell deep cleaners

wannaBeWhateverIWannaBe · 10/01/2007 10:51

I have a bissell and it will get dried stains up but you have to wet them quite well and go over them a few times iyswim. Where are you

Sorry, been away from here. Live nr brighton. Had thought about hiring one, but not sure could manage the cost right now. Like the idea of a rug but would have to be a large one (so pricey) to cover all stains.

We hired a coarpet cleaner from HSS, it was sort of £25 quid ish to keep overnight, prob cheaper just for a day. They do have different rates so worth finding the cheapest day. Also we hired it and then lent it to my brother for his house and so split the cost. Could you do that with any family or friends nearby? If you buy more than two or three products to try and get the stains up, that's half the £25 right there.

itsazoohere · 18/01/2007 10:05

That's a good idea QPootle-will ask dsis if she wants to do it. And good point about cost of cleaners adding up-I dread to think how much the cleaners in my cupboard would add up to (especially since I'm such a slutty cleaner!)Thanks to everyone for advice-will look into cost of hiring.

Had a similar prob with our light beige carpet tried all kinds of products but nothing really did the job.Just by luck a flyer came through my door and i started getting it done by a man for only £12 every 6 weeks.Room 16 ft by 15 ish too.
Lost his no though have finaly(after wrong delivery and 6 weeks of hastle) took delivery today of a very dark brown stain resistant carpet. Hoping it will be better.
Cost wise i'm skint too but used littlewoods catalogue not masses of choice but at least you can spread the cost ,they don't fit it though.
