How long for eggs to go off

I've stupidly left eggs in the cupboard of house we are selling and probably won't get a chance to go back for at least 4 weeks. How long before they start stinking? Hate to think of estate agent taking someone in for viewing and house stinking but it's at least a 6 hour drive away for us!

They won't stink in their shells.

At least 4 weeks depending on freshness when you bought them. And as pp said, they don't smell til you crack them when you will know in no uncertain terms that they're off.

Oh thank God! Was thinking I was going to have to do a 12 hour trip to get them. Thanks everyone. Another problem MN could solve that Google couldn't.

Just don't break them open she says from bitter experience, ds once smuggled in a swan's egg he'd found floating on the lake. He dropped it as soon as he got in the house. Boy did it stink but only once it broke

And just in case you want to know without breaking them, if you were to retrieve them, pop them in a bowl of water. Floaters bad, sinkers good.
