Comfortable mattress

Our mattress is now ten years old and I'm finding it rather uncomfortable. It's a big saggy under my bum and as DH is a fair bit heavier than me I end up rolling towards him.

We did try a memory foam topper on it, but I found that just moved all over the place and still wasn't comfortable. Plus, we love our electric blanket and when it's over memory foam you don't sink into it as you're supposed to.

Does anyone have any recommendations for a nice mattress that would be comfortable with an electric blanket over it and that wouldn't have me rolling into dh?

Is it a divan bed or bed frame? We have a wooden bed frame with a John Lewis natural collection firm mattress, a mid-range one. It is so comfortable.

It's a bed frame. It was very wobbly but a few braces and screws has sorted it out. I've got a few lowered back problems so I'm not sure if the mattress is as bad as I think it is! But it's still saggy. I'll go and have a lie on a few in John Lewis.

DH is ridiculously tight when it comes to any household expenditure so fingers crossed we can find one that doesn't break the bank!

I have a sealy princess posturepaedic and it's the best mattress I've ever had.

Pocket Spung will solve the rolling towards the other person problem. The more pockets the better. Worth spending as much as you can afford - we have a guest one that cost £300 which is no where near as comfy as ours which cost going on for £1k.

We have an iron bed frame and DH and I have just decided to switch to a twin divan (where it's two separate mattresses next to each other). Our friends who already have them swear by them as there's no rolling into the middle, or waking the other one up with tossing and turning. I can't wait, as our sleep has been awful for a while now.

Latex. Nature's memory foam. Very supportive, no springs to sag, no rolling together and apparantly a latex mattress has a lifespan of around 20 years. Also naturally hypoallergenic.

Hi, we got a memory foam one last year that's solved our sleeping woes! I know you said no MF but this one is amazing, doesn't make you hot like others and can be used with eleccy blankets.

We bought a mattress from JLP about £2,500. Their own brand. The best money we have ever spent (apart from the man who cleans the ovens).

The best mattress I have found after having back problems is silentnight which is pocket spring and reasonably priced

I picked up a double mattress for DS in the Laura Ashley sale last year, it had 50% off so was a steal (make your DH happy as they're currently running a similar sale). It's called Beaumont and has an attached top layer, don't know how that would fare with your electric blanket, and for me it's as comfy as our stupidly expensive Hypnos we have for DH's back.

IKEA have really, really good mattresses! They come flat packed, as you'd expect (well, rolled up). You unroll them at home and off you go! They've got a variety to try including memory foam and pocket sprung - you can try them all out in store. We've got two in our house and would recommend them.

We e got a John Lewis ortho support (or something like that) pocket sprung one - really comfortable and excellent value. They do them in increments of numbers of pocket springs but I don't think there's much difference in terms of comfort, think we got the cheapest in the range. Would be about £500-700 ?

We have one of the JL ortho mattresses. While it felt great in the shop, it turned out that I couldn't roll over on it, in the night, without waking up in pain in my hips and shoulders.

A mattress topper fixed that. It doesn't move around at all, as its fixed to the bed by its own protective cover, anyhow.

I'm finding that, after 4 years, it's beginning to feel a little lumpy, mind.

Those latex ones sound interesting. Might go and lie on a few to try them out in the shops, then order similar form Latex Sense if I like them. They get great reviews.
