what's in your linen chest?

I haven't got a linen chest, of course, but am sorting the airing cupboard out and there's whole piles of ancient sheets, towels, duvet covers and pillow cases that we never use, but I can't bring myself to throw, "just in case". What do teh Anthea types have to say on this? how much bed linen does a fanily of 4 need?

My mum always kept all ours, and, you do use it! Just fold neatly into piles of single sheets, single duvet covers, pillow cases etc. etc. and put in a little chest. My aunty had a bench seat thingy for all hers, but she had big hallways Pop some drawer liner in there aswell, or smelly ball thingys.

I haven't got a linen cheast or an airing cupboard. I have no where to keep sheets etc!
I keep the bare minimum for me and 4 dc. Need more ready for DD2 going in a bed but have no idea where i'm going to keep it!

I challenge anyone to fold fitted sheets tidily...

My mum used to keep a clean set of linen under the mattress of each bed. We have an airing cupboard but it only got sorted out recently (thanks Flylady!!!!). I got rid of masses of what I thought was surplus stuff, and then realised that actually we don't have enough towels now ....

ParanoidAndroid · 01/01/2007 15:05

Oh, and if you are getting rid of any sheets/towels etc, your local pet rehoming place or vets would be more than grateful!!!

(PS. Hope you are okay Tort, and that you had a good Christmas... I'll go and find the Flying thread now to catch up ....)

there's a way of folding fitted sheets, I cant remember it now... I just fold them the same as normal ones, they just look bulky and weird

DizzyBint · 01/01/2007 15:09

one set on each bed, one spare for each bed and that's it.

towels, 2 big ones each, 2 small ones each, plus 2 hand towels for each bathroom.

Martha Stewart on how to fold a fitted sheet .

We have drawers under our bed where we keep most bedlinen and towels. But do have old/extra stuff. Does come in handy occasionally, so we hang on to it.

blimey. I've just finished but now feel strangley compelled to go and dig a fitted sheet out just to try out Martha's method
