....storing toys.

Have 2 DDs, and especially since Xmas, am inundated with Barbie, Bratz, My Little effing Pony and Polly (how-many-crappy-little-bits-can-one-present-comewith)Pocket.

We really need something other than the huge plastic tubs we have, in which toys from Xmas's past can fester for years without seeing the light of day.

Anyone?

Yes, having a clear out every now and then, preferably when they are not in so they don't see you chucking stuff.

I had a big clear out before Xmas!

best thing we got was from Ikea. Can't remember what it was called (will look it up) but it is wooden and you slide big plastic tubs into it (like drawers). It's the best thing we've ever bought. In fact, we have 2 now. Might be called Trofast or something like that.

Ceolas · 30/12/2006 20:24

Trofast definitely Foxinsocks. We have 3

We have that sliding tub thing fron Ikea and is the best solution we have found so far.

foxinsocks · 30/12/2006 20:27

trofast

foxinsocks · 30/12/2006 20:28

we found the flat one (not the tall one) was more practical. If we'd got the tall one, we'd probably have had to fix it to the wall at the back and dd/ds wouldn't have been able to reach the top box.

HuwEdwards · 30/12/2006 20:45

Thanks all - I like the look of Trofast...but the thought of IKEA in January...sob

You wimp! I went to day with just DS and DD. I was after storage for the art/craft stuff. I have bought two of these . One with two big drawers and 3 small drawers and one with 9 small drawers. Have done it wrong really - more big drawers would have been good. They are now installed in the utility room.

For toy storage, we have these which go under the DCs beds (plain pine single beds) for larger collections of toys - brio track, duplo, baby dolls etc. Then both children have one of \linhk{http://www.ikea.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?topcategoryId=15561&catalogId=10103&storeId=7&productId=51761&langId=-20&categoryId=15981&chosenPartNumber=S19823012\these bookcases} in their bedrooms in white (it is the middle one of the three shown) and they have some shelves with books on and others with these baskets but in the taller size on. These hold smaller collections of toys - ponies, farm animals, matchbox toys etc.

wrappingpaperBOwZZAndribbons · 30/12/2006 21:02

Should have been these bookcases

funnypeculiar · 30/12/2006 21:03

Just done a big clear out of our toy chest (ikea) and decided would need to buy second Trofast or wahtever it;'s called as SO much better - actually makes me & ds tidy up afterourselves (which is an impressive feat, esp for me...)

Skribble · 30/12/2006 21:20

Ikea also do plastic storage boxes with compartments. Ideal for assorted bits and can be stacked and labeled.

CaptainFlameSparrow · 30/12/2006 21:26

I want an IKEA!!!

It's really hard. I've spent 22 years wrestling with that issue (and the 22 year old still leaves her stuff around the place).

before Christmas we put a lot away (he wouldn't let me throw a single one away) so I bought large plastic storage boxes and put them under the eaves of the house. In the youngest's bed room I bought 4 pine boxes with lids the toys go in and under their beds are pull out pine drawers too. Even so there are still toys all over the floor up there at the moment. I suggested we gave two toys away for every one we got but he didn't like that idea.
