Just that really, I'm in the UK and can't seem to find it in any of the supermarkets

Tesco 39p for 568ml, usually somewhere close to the malt vinegar. Morrisons also stock it.

Tuiles · 06/02/2016 14:49

Are you looking in the right aisle? Sainsbo and Waitrose do around here. It's the Sarsons brand in 600ml bottles. Might be with the oils or the cooking stuff.

rabbit123 · 06/02/2016 22:12

Asda's own, 39p

dementedpixie · 06/02/2016 22:13

It will say it's malt vinegar but is the clear stuff

ouryve · 06/02/2016 22:14

50p in Sainsburys. Though the website is currently only listing the £1 sarsons stuff.

Wilko sell it in spray bottles for cleaning with.

bushtailadventures · 06/02/2016 22:15

It depends how much you want. You can get it in most supermarkets here, although I buy it from Amazon because I use it for cleaning and it works out cheaper that way, a 5 litre bottle lasts a reasonable amount of time.

LIZS · 06/02/2016 22:20

Wilkos do a spray bottle.

I'm now very Confused . doesn't it say 'distilled white vinegar ' on the label or even 'white vinegar' ? I thought malt vinegar was different kind of vinegar (whether clear or brown). I asked DP to get some while he was out today and he came back with the clear malt vinegar and I was Hmm he was then Hmm and said that was all they had he tried our local Tesco, Asda, Saintsbury's and Lidl. I was going to go shopping myself tomorrow and have search.

Just use it as that will be the only one you will find in our supermarkets

AllyourGreens · 07/02/2016 11:06

Yes but I need it for a specific purpose dementedpixie. We recently had a bit of a condensation problem which is fine now but curtains were hanging in the affected window so I want to launder them in the vinegr to make sure there are no mold spores present, so it NEEDS to be the right vinegar.

White malt vinegar does the same job as distilled white vinegar. Check the aceatic acid content, you need about 5%.
You have the right stuff for mold spores.
Distilled vinegar is not actually distilled, it is fermented from alcohol. Malt vinegar is fermented from alcohol made from malt. The white ones are the same.

dementedpixie · 07/02/2016 11:19

The malt vinegar will work for the purpose you need it for. Or you could use zoflora in the wash as it's a disinfectant

Pantah630 · 07/02/2016 11:46

Go to your nearest Bookers or other Cash n' Carry, you'll be able to buy in 4l container for about £3

Pantah630 · 07/02/2016 11:48

It is the same stuff, I buy in bulk for cleaning and science experiments

AllyourGreens · 07/02/2016 11:59

Thank you so much everyone, I'm going to get this sorted asap.
Oh I 'm assuming vinegar doesn't stain in any way? I intend to add 1 cup to the washing machine draw.

PreAdvent13610 dp bought the tescos brand which simply states '5% Acidity'

White vinegar does not stain.
Dry them outside if you can, the wind will shift any vinegar smell and sunlight (uv) will help further disinfect.

PreAdvent13610 · 07/02/2016 12:06

Smile you have the right stuff

AllyourGreens · 07/02/2016 13:11

Thank you so much!

Poundland (not world) sell it, clear liquid in the cleaning aisle

AllyourGreens · 07/02/2016 18:12

sunnysarah what quantity do you get for £1? If it works out good value I'll remember to get more for the next time I need it
