Cooking smells really linger in our kitchen/diner. It's half carpeted.

It smells clean but do you think carpet hangs on to smells?.

The builders put it in so its not the best quality, I have tiles ready to go but no money for a tiler as yet.

I think soft furnishings in general do - if we eat in our living room the smell of food lingers and is there the next morning. If we eat in the dining room, it doesn't. Living room has curtains, carpet and fabric sofas. Dining room has curtains, laminate floor and wooden table and chairs with fabric seat pads.
