the cooker stopped working today - oh dear, i said! Dh rang a friend who has lent us one that was in his garage and was 'a bit dirty'. This turned out to be an understatement. I have just got off my knees and washed my vinegary hands and wiped the last of the grease off the cooker. It seems though that this may have all been in vain since i can't work out how to get it to work. The hob is fine but the rest is a mass of random buttons and i can't make the oven switch on - i have a day or so, but would lve suggestions soon please so that i can stop panicking about the enormous turkey (waiting in the garage as i write). Cooker is a Tricity Sovereign electric one, looks like early 90's? Borrowed it off abloke so, obviously he has no idea how it works!

Our oven has to be set to manual after a power cut or similar. The symbol is a hand in the manual but on the cooker it is actually a dish with a cross thru it. Perhaps this is the same?????

there is a digital clock, can't work out how to set it - feeling a bit feeble but at least dh can't either!

no symbols just words:
2 buttons say auto
2 have dishes, not crossed out
2 are degrees c - assuming temperature?
1 says 'B'
1 has a pic of a bell

dial which says data control

does this help anyone?

HURRAH! JustUsTwoTurtleDoves you did it! thanks so much. Now dh has to accept that mumsnet isn't just a bloody anti-social waste of time!
fire hazard seems ok cos the knobs are different - just checked, but thanks for the warning.
Happy turkey all of you!

Oh good! I nearly didn't post it because it might worry you but then I thought what if it IS that one, I can't NOT post it, I could be responsible for your house burning down!
