If I've unbalanced my washing machine once, would it affect the next wash?

I've probably overloaded the machine (again) but the drum seemed to be banging the outercase - the machine was jumping all over the place and making a horrific racket so I've stopped the cycle and plan to take some stuff out and go again but I'm worried I've caused some serious damage.
can anyone help?

I dont think the drum would hit the outercase, but the big block might be, or it might have come loose. You could open it and have a look, or jsut try it again. Maybe jsut try a spin and see what happens. I doubt you have damaged it, btu I'm no expert.

The drum is normally fixed to the outer case with four (or eight, I forget) springs so it can wobble a bit without banging.
Try again with less in it and if it still bangs and jumps it sounds like one of your springs might have pinged off its securing hook - if you can get the top of the case off you can normally hook the spring back on.

I just LOVE Mumsnet - thank you very much! I honestly don't know what I did before I had it!
