Candles in glasses: when they've burnt out, what do you do with the glass?

Do you have to just throw it away? It seems very wasteful, is there any way of getting the wax out? Can I use it to put other candles in or will it always look grimy and horrible?

scrape most of the wax out with knife, then wire wool and very hot water

Caroligula · 21/12/2006 14:40

Does it really come out then?

I have managed to get them clean - do as bakedpotato suggests and then re-use them!

Try putting it in the freezer for a while - the wax should come out really easily then.

Advice from a lady who was selling candles for these people

MrsBadger · 21/12/2006 14:43

boiling water from kettle usually does it.

Personally I get the worst off then put them in the recycling bin - there's only so much stuff my house can hold.

Clean as suggested and reuse, but use tealight candles with metal bases so that you don't have to clean them again next time.

expatinscotland · 21/12/2006 14:47

i fill them w/sand and burn incense in them.

Caroligula · 21/12/2006 14:47

Hmm, I was hoping there was a quick, labour-free way of doing it...

OP posts:
JonesTheSteam · 21/12/2006 14:48

There is - just stick them in the freezer.

Caroligula · 21/12/2006 14:53

OK will do that now (doesn't the glass break?)

OP posts:
SaintGeorge · 21/12/2006 14:56

Put in a plastic bag just in case. At least then if it breaks the bits are contained.

Doesn't need to be in there for v long. Just don't forget about it!!!!

DH put a bottle of CAVA in the freezer the other weekend.

Remembered about it two days later!!!!

Was still ok though!!!!
