Killed the Miele - vacuum recomendations

I was using Miele compatible bags & filter but they weren't quite comparable enough and dog hair has killed the motor.

I had the cat & dog. I had a Henry before but changed to Miele. Am now thinking dyson? I have hard floors only, no carpet and a golden retriever who sheds a LOT.

Is a dyson animal good or should I be looking at something else.

If you have no carpets, the "animal" models are a bit pointless. They only real benefit to specific "animal" vacuums is that they come with pet hair turbo brushes which you can't use on hard floors as the revolving brushroll will scratch the floor.

Miele's and Henry's are 2 of the most reliable vacuums you can buy, if you've killed them both, that's not a good sign. But you do have to use genunine Miele bags with them as the knock off's will ruin the machine.

In my experience, Dyson's are great for the few few months, but they get clogged up very easilly and start dropping to bits after a while.

If it's robust you're after, have a look at Sebo vacuums. We got one given as a hand me down that MIL bought back in the early 90's. It's 20+ years old now but it runs like new. Despite us attempting to update our vacuum twice - once with a Dyson and once with a Miele - we've always ended up going back to the Sebo. It's survived 2 house moves in that time and we've got 2 long haired cats.

You'd probably be best off with a cylinder model if you've got all hard floors.

Good tip about the bags though, I've got a Meile and didn't know that.

To be fair - I didn't actually kill Henry. We have a really small house and he was too big to store in a cupboard so he had to live in the garage and I got sick of having to go out to the garage every time I wanted it. He also had a hole in the hose.

I brought him in last night to vacuum the Miele and he turned on straight away despite not being touched for probably a year.

We've got a Henry in the garage too. They're great for messy jobs. We bought ours about 12 years ago when we were gutting our house and now it's used for cleaning the cars. They really are bomb proof. But you're right, they can be awkward to store if you don't have a big cupboard. You could take the hose off and dismantle the tubes when you put it in the cupboard to save space? Ours is stored without the tubes attached and the hose wrapped around the body.

New hoses are dirt cheap to buy on eBay. Might save you having to buy a brand new vacuum?

If you definitely want a new one, have a look at the Sebo's

I have a Henry that is used once a week (sometimes more) and then a cordless electric light one that I use a couple times a day just to keep on top of things. I'm also teaching the dcs to vacuum using the lightweight one. If they can learn to use the lightweight one nicely, that means it's their chore and I can just take out the Henry once a week to do a thorough job. Delegation.

GingerIvy, you're an inspiration. DS is pretty good with the hoover and he cleans his room well...when prompted. DD just looks at me like I've got stark raving mad - "hoovering? Moi?"

Think DD is a bit young - she's only 2.5

Even taken apart Henry is too big, the only cupboard available is just too narrow. With the dog I have to hoover at least every second day but ideally every day. Very small house so it doesn't take long.

Sebo would be good then, Helgatgehairy. You can stand it on its end and it's quite narrow. They have big bags too so don't need emptying that much

I swear by Electrolux vacuum cleaners - the higher range ones. I've had meiles and dysons before (2 of each both died) and I've used henrys but I wouldn't swap my electrolux(s). I have holiday properties and spend a lot of time vacuuming.

Get the ones that take the S-bag.

Ended up going for another Miele. The C3 extreme I think. There's a new model coming out so this was reduced to half price. I'll be using proper filters this time!

You should always genuine bags & filters with a Miele, they're a bit fussy like that.

Ah, that's how my Miele probably went rubbish.

I had high hopes for the Miele vac, and I hated it, would probably rank it in with some of the worst I've owned, and I have had a few.

I am thinking of buying a Miele washer this week, but slightly hesitant, as it's a massive risk if I hate that too..

I bloody love my Miele washer!!

Henry is great but cumbersome
