Where do you keep shoes?

Just that really.

Sick of the small hall being cluttered with shoes. Usually a couple of pairs each on the go for each of us. Looks so scruffy and they smell. We have no porch, and not really any room for a rack-it'd be against a radiator. We are a 'shoes off at the front door' household and realistically not going to take them off and put them away upstairs un wardrobes each time.

What do other people do with shoes?

In our wardrobes in basket for most. We keep just a pair each in a cupboard with a coat each near door. All other coats in wardrobes also.

The shoes change according to days. So weekdays kids will keep school shoes near door, and just go get other shoes if we go elsewhere after. Dh and I keep default work shoe, and just chose another that morning when we get dressed if we want to wear different that day.

This was an ongoing issue for us, shoes drive me mad! In the end I bought an ikea kallax unit, a 4 x 1 one in beach.
Each person has their own basket for their shoes. I stuck a lamp on top of it so it's looks a little more decorative and it's improved things no end.

My bloody husband does leave trainers around the kitchen though!

We use the back door a lot more than the front so we have one of those wooden IKEA toy boxes in the kitchen with shoes in that we wear a lot and then the rest in our wardrobes. It can still be an issue though as my husband has a LOT of trainers and will leave them at the side of the box, not in it...grrrr

Mostly upstairs in wardrobes but also have a shoe rack in the utility room for muddy shoes/boots and a space for wellies and walking boots. I leave a pair of mine near the front door as I'm in and out all day.

Have you seen the very slim ones in ikea op?

Otherwise you could go for the wall mounted type I will try and link it for you. They are great and it could go above yo ut radiator

We have one if these each by the door.

In the cupboard under the stairs (along with all the other shit that we have nowhere else to put Grin)

We have an old fashioned pigeon hole type shoe rack - best compromise between convenience and hiding them for us. But I wouldn't fancy storing shoes permanently in front of a radiator.

Is there a back door you could use for access? Or someone on here put a mat into their living room and had the shoe storage place in there, where there's more space. I've also seen shoe storage built into stairs, in place of the risers of the first couple of steps, but that must be expensive.

Thanks for all suggestions, will check them out. Think the skinny IKEA one might work best. (

I would love the stair riser storage, that's such a clever solution but yes, pricey I'm sure!

We have something very similar to this. www.aplaceforeverything.co.uk/home-storage/hallway-storage-bench-3-seat

I have a shoe wheel. The other thing I was considering was an over the door shoe storage for my door under the stairs.
