Is it safe for a tumble dryer to go under the stairs?

I've googled this but can't find the answer. Can I buy a tumble dryer to go in my hall under the stairs? There's no cupboard, so it would be open. The electricity board is also under the stairs. Does anybody know please?

I have a condenser dryer under my stairs in a cupboard. Have made sure there is space all round & because mine is in a cupboard I keep the cupboard door open while it's on. Have had it for around a year & it's all OK so far.

Mine's in there as well. Condenser dryer so no plumbing. And it switches off if you've forgotten to empty the water tank.
Somebody might be along to tell us differently but my cupboard is at no point ever too hot or damp.

My parents have had a condenser drier under the stairs for many years. Open space like yours, although the fuse board isn't under there the thermostat is. Can't imagine the fuse board being a problem

The only thing that my research is pointing out, is that if it goes on fire your stairs are gone and you could be trapped upstairs. I would never go to bed with it on though, and I could jump from an upstairs window !

Yeah I had a condenser one under my stairs with the electric box etc, was fine!

Maybe put an extra smoke alarm above it?

There's a hard wired smoke alarm in the hall anyway, so that's good.

mines under my stairs and on top on my washing machine. its great them being hidden away. Plus my stairs are stone so if it were to go on fire it really couldnt spread far :D

I would still put an extra smoke detector in there even if you have one in the hall.

As long as there is an extract ventilation point inside there then it should be fine.

I would be careful about the type of dryer though. We had a condensor dryer, JL own brand, and it didn't produce any steam or heat into the room.

It died a few months ago so we bought a Bosch condensor dryer to replace it. It dries clothes more quickly than the old one (yay!) But it does produce some heat into the room, and so we get a small amount of condensation. As the dryer is in our utility room, where there is a window, it's not a problem but I imagine in a cupboard it would be, unless theres an airbrick or something in there?

Thanks for that information. I had read about condensation. Under our stairs is completely open to the hall, there isn't a cupboard, so hoping it won't be too much of an issue. Or it will have to go in the garage
