Kitchen storage solutions

I've just moved house and although the kitchen is a good size, the storage is just terrible. I only have one full sized drawer, one full sized cupboard, cupboard under sink and two half cupboards.
Really struggled to have everything put away. We plan to redo the kitchen but can't afford it just now so will be a few years before we can manage.
I've ordered a stand alone larder to help in the interim but looking for any ideas for clever storage of food, plates, pots etc.

So far I'm thinking.

Ouch. What sort of household are you eg how many people and pets/what ages/what sort of working routines etc etc?

PS - and what other nearby spaces do you have eg laundry/utility room/pantry/dining room etc etc?

Me and hubby in our early 30s.
Two dd - 3 year old and 10 month old.
No pets.
I do novelty cakes as a hobby so have quite a lot of baking stuff.

We have a large shelf on the wall with a bar underneath wish s-hooks on this holds all our pans (except the crock pot) and frees up soo much space in the cupboards.

No laundry/utility room unfortunately or pantry.
Dining area in the living room but not really big enough for any storage. Thinking about a corner side board to maybe house good plates and glasses.

We have a tiny kitchen but were able to add more wall units - they are not an exact match, but you can't really tell. Some shelves for storage canisters can help. We have a magnetic knife rack and a bar for hanging utensils on, both from IKEA. That frees up drawer and worktop space.

A larder is a great idea. Can you put a sideboard somewhere or a storage cabinet? In our dining room we have a display cabinet from IKEA which wine glasses, serving plates, etc, etc go in.

Wire racks in the cupboards are brilliant - all our everyday crockery fits in one cupboard; we have a corner rack and a square two tier one. Lakeland do some good stuff for maximising storage.

Do you have space for a dresser which could be incorporated into the new kitchen in due course? IKEA do some cheap free standing pieces which could be used temporarily or kept when you re do the kitchen.

Novelty cake/baking equipment is the very devil because it's all sort of weird and wonderful shapes which can really eat into space even in a standard cupboard. Have you considered those big storage boxes - transparent-ish plastic with lids on? (Someone will know what I mean.) I was thinking that you could stack two or three of those after putting lesser used items in one and moving on to commonly used things for the other/other two. (I can see the darned things in my mind's eye.)

I know exactly what you mean and that's what I was planning on using!!! I have a few already. Sorting them into categories sounds wise. I do love categories. X

DO you have room for a freestanding trolley or two?

The good thing is that they can be re-used for other things once you have your new kitchen. (Or even, at a push, be used to store really uncommonly used items in the loft or the garage.) It wouldn't be 'dead' money.

Could you hang a transparent shoe organiser on the back of the door for the baking stuff?
