Moving house in a couple of weeks and I need a Gas cooker. Any recommendations please? Do cookers come as a standard size? Thanks

Well, you can get them in various sizes - presuming you have to fit it into a slot, can you find out the width?

You can get 55cm ones, most are 60cm wide and then of course you have the range cookers which are 70, 80, 90 or more.

Rangemaster do a reasonable one which is 60cm wide. It has two ovens. You can get eye level grills as well, on some - Flavel, New World and a few others.

Bear in mind it will need installing by someone properly qualified, attached to the wall by means of a chain and/or stability brackets (especially the tall ones with the eye level grill, as they are a bit top heavy and can tip if not secured)

Your gas engineer will be able to sort this out.

Or some shops offer installation when you have it delivered but it tends to be up to about £100. A gas engineer might be cheaper (our plumber installed ours for £50)

I am one of the very few people who actually own a gas cooker. I bought mine from 365electrical.

They were excellent.

I bought a Parkinson Cowan double oven model when I bought my first house. It has a pyrolytic cleaning cycle so was a breeze to clean. It's still going strong over 17 years later and the person who bought our old house is taking it with them when they move.

I thought it was a great oven. We've got one of those shitty electric single ovens with grill inside at the moment. Not great if you do a lot of cooking as not much flexibility with just one oven and no separate grill.

Thanks for these suggestions - it's given me some ideas. I've arranged for a visit next week to measure up. I move in on the 18th & worried I won't be able to get one in in time for Christmas!
