Brown marks on clothes after been washed

For ages now I've been getting brown marks, a sort of rust colour AFTER been washed. Defintely not there before.

Now there is a big streak of it on hubby's jumper which I washed in my mum's washing machine yesterday.

Now I've never got the marks out my socks, but not been too bothered. Any ideas how to get it out of hubby's favourite sweater?

could the marks be from the pegs?

Binkacat - I had rusty brown marks, like little spots, on my clothes in my last but one washing machine. Turned out that my barings/bearings (sp?) had gone and I had to have them replaced. I had noticed that the machine had got noisier when spinning ...

Then the same thing started happening on my next washing machine, after I'd had it about 5 years. This time, it wasn't just the barings, it was the whole drum. Would have cost £200 to replace, so I went and got a new machine.

Bit mystified why it should have happened in your mum's machine too. Perhaps they both need looking at??? Can't be anything to do with the clothes or powder, must be some problem with the internal parts of the machine(s).

Sorry to bring bad tidings ...

Ah well my machine blew up on Friday which is why I was using my mum's. And prior to this it had been very noisy spinning so maybe it was the machine.

The only thing I can think of is that is was on the jumper before (from my machine) and I didn't notice it....

Guess I better get him a new sweater for xmas

thanks

I'll try the salt/lemon juice thing though - thanks for the link.
