Can I just throw my heavy lined curtains in the washing machine? I've dry cleaned them before but can't afford it now

Depends on how heavily lined they are. I have some which I bought second hand 20 years ago and I wouldn't put those in. I don't even think anyone would dry clean them now. Must admit I never clean or wash curtains unless they are small and light and have been somewhere like a kitchen and possibly got greasy. I think you can get them steam cleaned in situ if you really need to.
