Old pine table-how best to clean it?

Hello, we've just bought a old second-hand pine dining table and chairs. It's really lovely but the table top is grimy, just from years of use.
Anyone got any good ideas on how I could clean it? Any special products or anything?
TIA

The easiest way is to sand it off and revarnish it. That way you'll get rid of every mark.

Is it varnished? If so first remove the varnish with a proprietory remover. Then clean with white spirit. Next sand well with an electric sander, starting with coarse paper and working down to fine through the grades. Finish with fine paper by hand on the hard to reach areas. Then revarnish if you wish, or wax the table otherwise to protect the wood.

Yup - sanding is the only way to go !

We sand our farmhouse table every year in the garden in summer - and don't worry about it much inbetween - evn pen marks come off - tis fab !
