Cleaners - they've got to go I think ??

So - my cleaners - an Agency (national franchise) left my front door unlocked for the second time yesterday !

I phoned them and they said they would have a word with the cleaners and remind them to lock up after themselves. They did say Sorry - and I'm not sure what I wanted them to say - but I think they've got to go !

What would you do ?

I am only hesitating as I work full time and it is nigh on impossible to find cleaners round here ! My dh is not a housework kind of guy !

Also - the cleaning is really variable as it's different people every week !

Get rid. Would they have coughed up if your house had been burgled?

satinshoes · 08/12/2006 11:05

Keep them but tell them you wont pay them for yesterdays work (unless you already have, in which case dont pay for next times).

Also tell them if it happens again you'll contact the council about their poor standard of work.

Oh, good answer, satinshoes. I like your style!
Not getting paid is an excellent memory jogger for locking the front door.

They get paid on a monthly direct debit - if I sack them today I would stop the dd anyway - so effectively they wouldn't be paid as it is in arrears. I said this to them yesterday - they didn't seem bothered.

I think the franchisee has lost interest in the business - it is harder to get staff than she thought and I think she is fed up with it all.

The cleaning isn't so bad that I would complain to the council - it is just not very good -and for this much money I expect very good !

Oh and - well they said their insurance would have covered any burglary - but I am not convinced !

So - to sack or not to sack ???

THAT is the question.......

Sack them then and find a local lady through recommendation if you can.

SherlockLGJ · 08/12/2006 11:46

So let me see if I have this straight, you work full time, so you pay a cleaner to clean your house ?? So far so good. But not only are you paying for shoddy work, you have the added luxury of sitting in work worrying about whether your front door is locked and whether Billy Burglar is burgling you.

Can't believe you didn't do it yesterday.

trice · 08/12/2006 11:47

I always liked to use a cleaner who is not in an agency as then I know that they are getting a decent wage and not being exploited. That way you get the same person every time and you can build up a relationship.

Not that I can afford a cleaner now that I am a SAHM.

Try putting an add in the post office.

scatterbrain · 08/12/2006 12:12

Well I just rang them - and do you know I don't think they were even slightly bothered !!!

I said I wanted my key back asap - and they said I could go into their office to collect it ! I have asked them to look into getting it back to me today ! They said they'll call me back !

Not too worried really as you can't unlock our front door if the key is left in the lock - so they wouldn't be able to get in anyway !

Grrrr - so my search for another one begins !

well done you.

i used to have a cleaner through an agency and paid loads. in the end i agreed 'unofficially' with the cleaner to come and work for me. Saved myself 1/2 the cost and i trusted her more than the agency.

alas i'm a sahm now and cant afford a cleaner

daisy1999 · 08/12/2006 12:26

I always promised myself a cleaner when I could afford it and just when I was nearly there I saw a tv programme expose. What an eye opener! Amongst other things the main thing that turned me off was seeing the cleaner start on the toilet seat, then the hand basin, followed by a little girls desk, finishing with the kitchen workstops -ALL WITH THE SAME CLOTH
