Cleaning wool rug

My boss was throwing away a 100% wool rug. Rather than see it go to waste, I disposed of it in my car (with permission!)
It's slightly dog haired and has various other stains you tend to find in a house with two small children. What's the best way to clean it?

Vacuum it and get as much hair off as you can. Then you can use a carpet cleaner or use original Stardrops in warm water and a scrubbing brush - the trick is to use the foam and only let it get damp, don't get it very wet. I have cleaned a kitchen carpet in a rented flat this way and it does work.
