SantaGotStuckUpTheGreensleeve · 07/12/2006 21:29

I think we might have one behind the cupboard in our kitchen when ever I open one of the cupboards there's an evil stench, like old cheesy feet, really, really rank - and there's nothing in the cupboard causing it, I have checked

BudaBauble · 07/12/2006 21:31

My Dad has just removed the fireplace in their house and found a mouse nest from when he put the back boiler in - over 30 years ago!!!!! And it never smelled!

fireflyxmasfairylights2 · 07/12/2006 21:36

I was listening to Gerry Ryan last week (RTE 2fm) and a woman called in saying there was a really rotten smell in her kitchen & her mum & dad had just had a new one fitted and they removed kicker boards etc.... all to no avail. The one day it got that bad that her dad lifted the microwave, and they realised there was a slit in the back of it big enough for the ladies hand to go in... So what they did was.. they removed the back of the panel of the microwave, & inside it were three dead field mice!!!!!!!!!!! They had been electrocuted many times over the amount of weeks... & one of them was stuck in the fan & the dead mice odour was blowing all over the food in the microwave & out into the kitchen [gag][gag] She called SHARPE to inform them that the slit was dangerous as rodent could get into it (and one of them had been connecting the circuit which made it live, & if anyone had touched the microwave during the time it was on, they would have been electrocuted!! Apparently SHARPE accused the woman of having a dirty house & said there was nothing wrong with having a slit in the back of the m'wave that a mouse could fit in

MerryChipmonkAndAHappyNewey · 07/12/2006 21:48

God, I'll never buy a Sharpe microwave if that's the case! Have to say, it was nice to have Gerry back this week, missed him last week!

JackieNoHoHo · 07/12/2006 21:51

We had field mice in a previous house (it was a new build and they'd got 'built in'), and they liked to stroll nonchalantly along the worktop and go into the slots at the back of the toaster, where the crumbs drop out of. I guess it was warm, and there was food. Yeuch.

NbgSparklyYellowFeathers · 07/12/2006 21:53

I found a Rat in our house on Monday. Well actually its in a cavity wall. It chewed through the plaster board into the kitchen and chewed a hole in our dishwasher water hose and flooded the kitchen that night.
Turns out its done more damage than we thought and we now have a completly knackered 5 month old dishwasher!

We're now waiting for the poison to work so we can dispose of the little bugger and then we're going to cover up every single hole in the house and outside with the cement that dh bought last night

BudaBauble · 07/12/2006 21:54

at Gerry - I miss his show. Have tried getting on internet but failed.

BudaBauble · 07/12/2006 21:58

I remember years ago while still living at home - would ahve been about 20 - coming down into kitchen one morning with hangover dying for a drink of juice and seeing a mouse strolling along the worktop. Ran upstairs and got my sis to get me a drink! Told Dad and he put traps down that day. So that evening am getting ready to go out again and get my coat from under stairs and hear a trap go. I run screaming to Dad that a mouse has been caught dropping my coat in the process. He emerges with the trap which was holding my coat! I didn't live that one down for a while!

PartridgeinaRustyBearTree · 07/12/2006 22:02

A mouse can get through a gap of 9mm, so Sharpe might have a point actually.

fireflyxmasfairylights2 · 07/12/2006 22:08

The hole was big enough for this lady's hand to fit through it.. would a persons hand fit through 9mm? (I don't know)

Ah yes, Gerry.... I adore him.. just love him....

Budababe, I can listen to his shows on the net, how come you can't?

My dh thinks I am sad 'cos every evening I will say "Gerry said..." "A woman rang Gerry this morning...." I only get to listen to him whilst doing the school run though, as the reception in my house is crap

MerryChipmonkAndAHappyNewey · 07/12/2006 22:12

firefly, I'm like that about MN! Dh thinks I don't live in RL at all!

littlemissbossy · 07/12/2006 22:14

Thank god I'm not the only one LOL

OP posts:
BudaBauble · 07/12/2006 22:17

firefly - have no idea why I can't get it on net - think it's our computer. Don't know what I need though! Must do some research.

And yes I would be in the both the 'Gerry says'/someone on MN says' camps!

stleger · 07/12/2006 23:02

What was wrong with Gerry, is he OK? Mouse killed my Sharpe microwave, but left offspring so that was nice!

fireflyxmasfairylights2 · 07/12/2006 23:42

I think Gerry had some kind of fluey thing

I love it when he says Feck & swears... he's cool!! And when he gets all worked up.. reminds me of a sober Father Jack!!

Can't wait to tune in in the morning, they had their xmas party tonight

BudaBauble · 07/12/2006 23:54

Bah humbug NO FAIR!

Stil

fireflyxmasfairylights2 · 08/12/2006 00:09

Where are you buda? (geographically) I'm in the North & can get him here, are you in the South?

Anyway, must go to bed now...

andaSOAPBOXinapeartree · 08/12/2006 00:18

How conincidental - I have a little mouse running round my living room right now!

Quite a cute little thing that keeps darting out looking around and darting back under the sofa again

He is fascinated with a pair of DH's dirty socks which are lying discarded in the middle of the floor - keeps running out to them having a sniff and running away again - can't say I blame the poor thing really

MerryChipmonkAndAHappyNewey · 08/12/2006 00:20

Gerry had the winter vomiting bug, I think.

BudaBauble · 08/12/2006 07:43

sorry firefly - I went to bed - rude to go without saying goodnight! Am in Budapest!
