carpet protection

I have had a new carpet in the hall and want to protect it.

I was thinking of a plastic runner when I need to protect carpet. Would have loved flooring but too complicated due to part parquet

also my turtle rug does seem to need anchoring and don't want to ruin carpet underneath thanks

I'd love to know too. I've spent all afternoon shampooing the (frankly disgusting) hall carpet and need to protect it!
