It's well loved and has made many a stew over the years so it's quite stained. I need to use it to make some fudge so want to give it a decent scrub. Would bicarb be best?

Put Biological washing powder and boiling water in a washing up bowl, then after a decent soak, give it a scrub with a scourer, it can lift most burnt on stains.
