Are Rug Doctors any good?

Youngest child is finally potty trained, and it's time to do something about our much-abused, grubby, whiffy living room rug. Local grocery store has Rug Doctors for hire for $25. Are they good? Will it be worth the money? TIA.

Yep I think they are worth it! We had some bad staining from toilet training a puppy, and it didn't get rid of it completely. But it was very satisfying seeing the black water coming out of the carpets.

I've used them a few times and think they are really good. the detergents they try to sell you with the machine are expensive though. One tip I picked up on MN was to use Persil Small & Mighty instead (laundry liquid). I don't know if that is available where you are, but there may be an equivalent.

It's also worth seeing how much a local company would charge you for carpet cleaning as their industrial equipment is likely to be better than anything you can hire domestically and they should be experts at dealing with different stains, etc.
