Hello,

I am currently 17weeks pregnant with my first baby and am still living at home with my parents at the moment as im only 20.

I want to have my own house by the time my baby comes as it would be nice for me and my partner to have our own little home, as we would have our own family then. I have applied to the council but they declined me as they said my house is big enough for me and the baby. But its not as my partner is living with us too and I just about have room to fit a cot in let alone anything else. My mum, dad and brother live there and its only 3 bedrooms and one is a box room which is my brothers and mine is a bit smaller than a standard double bedroom but I have big built in wardrobes. I don't earn a lot of money so couldn't go private rented.

Does anyone have any advice or been in the same situation as me please, I am desperate ?

I just want my own home for my little family.

Thank you Smile

Have you looked at private renting?

nottheOP · 23/09/2015 12:49

I think that once the baby reaches an age (maybe 2) than they deem that the baby needs it's own room and you can reapply.

Could you take out the big wardrobes to make the bedroom bigger?

Patapouf · 23/09/2015 17:15

Is your partner earning enough to go for a private rental? nottheOP is right.

LittleBearPad · 23/09/2015 17:18

Private rental seems likely to be the only option. What does your partner earn?

Can you move in to his family home instead?

Flat sharing? Tbh finding somewhere that will want a couple with a newborn will likely be tricky.

Hello everyone, sorry I've been so busy haven't been able to get on here.

Yh it does look like private renting is the only option really :(

Yes I could knock my wardrobes down that is an option, as it would make my room quite bigger.

Thank you for all you comments and advice

xx

If you private rent and have a low income you will get help with housing benefit so you will be able to afford the rent.
