How do I clean an iron?

I've got a big Philips steam generator iron and the plate on the actual iron really needs cleaning. I've got a big brown patch right in the middle which has started transferring on to clothes! It's really burnt on so I don't know how to remove it.????Any ideas? Smile

I do mine with toothpaste. It seems weird, but I read it somewhere (probably on MN Grin ), but it seems to work! Use a bit of kitchen paper to rub it on, and then rinse with a damp cloth to get rid of any excess. And you get minty fresh laundry Wink

I've got those magic erasers. They work brilliantly on mine.

I've got magic erasers! Never thought of that. I ended up getting it off with bicarb of soda Grin
