Mould on mattress (yuck!)

I'm on a bit of a Housekeeping kick this weekend, so it's another post from me!

Poor DH has been ill with tonsillitis/throat infection for a couple of weeks, with symptoms including fever. Every day he wakes up drenched in sweat and when we get up in the morning his PJs and our sheet, his side of duvet and his pillow are actually wet to the touch. It's pretty yucky.

I've obviously been throwing back everything and opening the window to air everything and I've changed all the bedclothes every five days or so, but yesterday I decided to wash the mattress protector (only wash this every month or so) and when I lifted it back, there were spots of black mould on his side of the mattress [boak]

The mattress is only just over a year old and a goodish quality one, so I don't want it to be ruined.

We camped out in the spare room last night, and I've had the mattress bare for over 24 hours with the window open, just trying to dry it out, but it still felt damp this am.

I now need to tackle cleaning the mould off somehow. Does anyone have any ideas how to clean it? What with? It's a normal mattress (as opposed to memory foam etc.)

Thanks all Smile

Mould removing spray seems to be quite bleach-like. Do you have any laundry bleach? Try that, or I'd try Milton (I always keep that in even though the kids are 5-11)

Thanks, AuditAngel, yes, don't like the thought of an actual strong mould remover on my bed, they smell so strong don't they. Don't have either of those on hand (recently had a cleaning cupboard clear out) but can nip out before the shops shut this afternoon.

The only thing I'd wondered about was some Zoflora, but that's only a disinfectant so probably not enough power.
