Fleas!!! Freaking Out

I found 2 fleas on our shihtzu on Monday. Nobody has been bitten and I haven't found any hopping round the house. Set up a few flea traps and they were clear this morning. I've used advantage spot on on said manky dog and hoovered the whole house every nook and cranny and stripped sofa and beds etc. Are we infested or will that take care of it!? I've bought acclaim flea spray but would rather not have insecticide all over the house ATM as DD1 has a chest infection and asthma and DD2 is crawling and licking everything! Sad Don't even know where the dog got them as he hardly ever goes out Confused Help!

I wouldn't worry too much - you found 2 that is hardly infested - they can pick them up in the garden from hedgehogs who are infested - or local strays such as cats or foxes that come in the garden. Keep the dogs treatments up and stop worrying

Thanks RB86. I know we're not infested, just feels that way. I can't stop itching Sad hopefully the Hoover and the flea stuff took care of it :-/

No, you don't need to spray the house at all. That is for heavy infestations only and even then, if you have an animal resident in the property the fleas should be taken care of by default when they jump onto said animal.

As long as the animal is treated with a spot on, the fleas will be no more.

I moved in somewhere once that had had cats in it and for about 2 or 3 short weeks we had fleas leaping onto our ankles first thing in the morning.

We had no pet of our own at that point; I did not treat the house. I waited and they died.

They cannot live on us. They may have a nip as they're very hungry and desperate, but they can't survive on human blood.

Try not to worry Flowers
